- Artificial intelligence (AI)
- Software that does tasks that used to need a person, such as understanding text, reading a document or recognizing what is in an image.
- Generative AI
- The kind of AI that creates new content: text, images, audio or video. It is what powers tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini.
- Automation
- A task that runs on its own whenever something happens. Example: a payment comes in and the spreadsheet updates. Not every automation uses AI.
- AI agent
- An AI that, besides answering, carries out steps: checks the calendar, books a time, sends a reminder. It works within rules set by the business.
- AI customer service
- Replies to customers on WhatsApp, Instagram or a website made by AI, using information the business approved. When needed, the chat goes to a person.
- Integration
- A link between two systems so they share information with no one copying and pasting. Example: a sale at the register shows up in the spreadsheet on its own.
- API
- The official way a system offers for other software to read or send data. Most integrations work through it. One example is the WhatsApp Business API.
- Computer vision
- The part of AI that understands images and video. It is what lets a camera notice a queue or an empty shelf.
- OCR, or document reading
- Technology that turns the text in a photo or PDF into data a computer can use, such as the amount and date on an invoice.
- Prompt
- The written instruction you give an AI. The clearer the instruction, the better the answer.
- Hallucination
- When AI confidently gives a wrong answer. That is why answers should rely on approved information and be checked by a person.
- LGPD (Brazil’s data protection law)
- Brazil’s General Data Protection Law (Law 13,709/2018), which sets how businesses may collect and use personal data in Brazil.
- Sensitive personal data
- Data about health, biometrics, religion, racial or ethnic origin, political opinion, sex life and other items listed in the law. It has stricter rules.
- NFC
- A chip a phone reads when it touches it. On the review plate, it opens the Google page without typing anything.
- Avatar
- A digital version of a person’s face and voice, made from their recordings and with their written consent.
- Bank reconciliation
- Checking that every amount that came into the bank matches a sale. When it is automatic, only what does not match reaches you.
Questions
Quick answers.
Does every automation use AI?
No. Many automations just follow a fixed rule, such as sending a reminder the day before. AI comes in when something has to understand text, a document or an image.
What is the difference between a chatbot and AI customer service?
An old-style chatbot follows a menu of options. AI customer service understands the question as the customer writes it and answers with the information the business approved.
